The scale of the maintenance task is real. It is also the council's defence — and its own records show where Killardry sat within it.

There are 457 bridges in the Tipperary–Cahir–Cashel Municipal District. Typically about 15 are submitted for funding in a year, and 2 or 3 are approved. Killardry, rated Significant Damage that January, was not among the funded structures that year.

May 2026 Cahir-Cashel MD minutes: District Engineer confirmed 477 bridges in the district, 14 applications submitted, only 3 funded (independent 2026 corroboration).
