Bridge Parapet Types (BD 52/93)

This standard classifies and specifies the performance requirements for different types of bridge parapets.

BD 52/93 defines various parapet types, including P1, P2, and P5, based on their containment levels and impact performance. P1 parapets offer lower containment, suitable for pedestrian areas, while P2 and P5 provide higher containment for vehicle impact, protecting road users and preventing vehicles from leaving the bridge deck. The selection of a parapet type depends on factors like road speed, traffic volume, and the consequences of a vehicle leaving the bridge.
